De l’espace résidentiel aux quartiers habités : les métamorphoses d’une catégorie d’analyse

Abstract : The definition of one’s object of study largely determines the ways it can be analyzed. The category of “residential area” is the most frequently used to characterize the north-western neighborhoods of Buenos Aires; however, this labeling prevents the understanding of their complexity, mainly because of the category’s mono-functional conceptualization. On the contrary, defining those areas as “inhabited spaces” enables to apprehend the diversity of functions they support and, above all, to analyze how representations and practices contribute to their production.
