La prédication seconde détachée en position initiale en anglais et en français

Abstract : The present paper focuses on the different forms of supplementive clauses in initial position in a comparable corpus made up of economic articles in English and French. The corpus was annotated using the Analec software. The aim is to show that a similar syntactic phenomenon is exploited very differently on the discursive level in each language. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the corpus reveals that in English, supplementive clauses are mostly –ing clauses used as metatextual elements guiding the reader, which is not the case in French.
