OS HYOÏDE ET LARYNX CHEZ HOMO. POSITION ESTIMEE PAR LA BIOMETRIE

Abstract : In the current and fossil Men, the estimated position of the hyoid bone and, therefore, that of the larynx, constitutes an important parameter to reconstitute the geometry of their vocal tract. In order to build a simple and effective method applicable to all species of the Homo genus, we searched for craniometrical marks that are independent of the great morphological variation of the cranio-cervical complex during the human evolution. The cranio-facial proportions of modern and fossil Men enabled us to define easily locatable points which are not, or very little, affected by evolutionary trends among the various human lineages. This work makes it possible to carry out a technique of statistical training and a simple formula to estimate the position of the larynx.
